Most of these tools are good at the drawing. Where they differ is in what happens when you press download, and that is hard to see from a homepage that says "free" in large type. So these are the questions:

The stage plot maker and the tech rider template are one tool with two tabs. You drag the band onto a stage drawn to scale, the input list fills in as you place mics and DIs, and the rider tab adds the page a production manager reads first. Six presets (4-piece rock band, a bigger band with keys and horns, duo, solo acoustic, jazz trio, DJ) come with a filled-in example rider each.

Nothing is uploaded. Your work is saved in your own browser and in the share link, and the PDF downloads in Letter or A4 as often as you like. If you want it kept with a press kit, a free LiveEPK account saves one plot and publishes the PDF to the Downloads section of your EPK.

Where it falls short. It is the newest tool here (September 2026) and has the smallest icon set on this page: 39. No mixer-file export, no AI, no logo upload, no collaboration, and no cloud save unless you make a LiveEPK account. English and Spanish only. We make it, so weigh this entry the way you would weigh any band describing itself.

TecRider

The biggest icon library, mostly behind a paid plan.

TecRider (tecrider.com) is the tool you will meet most often in search results, in seven languages. You can start designing without signing up, and your work is cached in the browser. Saving to their cloud needs a login, and shared links are read-only.

The part we could not pin down is the PDF. Their free stage plot maker page says PDF export is free and unlimited. Their plans page and homepage plan cards list "Download as PDF" as a feature of all three paid plans. We did not run an export, so check before you count on it. Their lifetime plan lists "No Advertisement" as a perk, the editor has a "Supported by" button that links to a music retailer, and a countdown timer was running on the yearly and lifetime offers when we looked.

Stageplot Pro (stageplotpro.app)

Everything free during early access. Account needed to export.

Stageplot Pro (stageplotpro.app) went online in early 2026 and is in early access, and right now everything is free: 311 icons, automatic input list, monitor mixes built source by source, a 3D preview, and an X32 or M32 show file. You can start building without an account; saving, exporting the PDF, and sharing ask you to create a free one.

Their pricing page says what comes later: a free plan with a watermarked PDF and up to three saved plots, and a Pro plan at $69 a year. Their FAQ is plain that it handles the stage plot and input list, not the written rider. Editing is desktop only.

Free to draw. The PDF is paid.

Stage Plan (stage-plan.com) says it has made more than 223,000 stage plots, and drawing one is free with no account. Getting it out is not: their plan comparison table marks "Create a PDF," saving, autosave, the input and monitor lists, and the hospitality rider as paid. A free plot gets a read-only share link that is deleted after 28 days, and the free tier shows adverts.

The paid side is cheap: $3.99 once for a single plot with PDF and rider sections, or a subscription for five plots from $4.96 every four months. Payment is by PayPal. If you only need one plot a year, that one-off price is a fair deal; just know before you start drawing that the download costs money.

Ridermaker lets you build a plot and generate unlimited PDFs without registering. A free account stores one project. The free PDF carries a Ridermaker link, which the paid plans remove; those plans also add the output list, mixer export, custom columns and colors, a background image, and a magnetic grid, for 19 or 29 euros a year.

With more than 400 sound and lighting items it suits engineers as much as bands, and it has Spanish pages. The written part of the rider is a footer text field rather than separate sections.

When you go to download, a form asks for your details to receive the PDF. It is a stage plot and input list tool; their own blog draws the line between that and a tech rider.

The tool is the front door to their musician website builder, so expect a nudge toward it. On a phone the designer asks you to come back on a bigger screen.

An Austin backline company has kept this free designer online since 2014, and plenty of venue and festival pages still link to it. There are no accounts and nothing to buy. You drag from a shelf of about forty items, type the input list by hand, and print to PDF from the browser. There is no save and no share link, so finish it in one sitting.

Press download and you have a PDF. No accounts, no saving, no share link, and no hospitality section.
